TOP SIGHTS IN SAN CARLOS AND GUAYMAS

Antigua Cárcel Pública (Old Public Jail)

This building began construction in 1892 and was inaugurated in 1897. In this historic monument, you can still tour its cells and courtyards.

Currently, it has been completely renovated and is an eclectic building that houses a gallery and an exhibition center.

According to urban legend, it is said that you can still hear the cries of the prisoners at night.

Arcos y Cuevas (Arches and Caves)

Along the coast of San Carlos, there are extraordinary geological formations.

Here you can find islets, arches, and caves, which are habitats for a wide variety of marine fauna.

Exploring the coastline and discovering these natural wonders is quite an adventure.

 

Delfinario Sonora (Dolphinarium)

It features pools for swimming with dolphins. The sea lion and dolphin shows are highly entertaining.

There is an underwater observation window where you can see the dolphins swimming, and since they are very friendly, they come close to the glass to greet you.

There is also a small playground and a cafeteria.

It is located between San Carlos and Guaymas. Km 1.5, Las Tinajas Road, San Carlos, Sonora.

El Cerro Tetakawi

Its name means “Stone Mountain” in Yaqui, a volcanic hill jutting out of the sea. It is considered one of the 10 Ocean Views by National Geographic. This scenic lookout, gives an amazing view over the Gulf of California, including dolphins, pelicans, and whales.

It has become the symbol of the destination and is an excellent option for those who like adventure and nature.

Granja de Perlas (Pearl Farm)

The pearls from the Sea of Cortez are considered the finest in the world due to their strict quality control and unusual colors, including silver gray, opalescent gray, golden, bronze, olive green, purple, violet, and black, always with varied shades of pink, violet, green, and blue.

These exotic gems have an annual production of only five thousand specimens.

It is located past Estero del Soldado in Bacochibampo Bay. Bahía de Bacochibamp s/n, Milenio, Lomas de Cortés, Guaymas, Sonora.

 

Iglesia de San Fernando

The building dates back to the 19th century.

It has an interesting neoclassical architecture with two slender towers with lancet windows.

On its façade, you can see the portal topped with a pediment.

Mercado Municipal (Market)

It is a place to find all the typical products of Guaymas, from food to crafts.

This building is a tradition since the cornerstone was laid at the turn of the century in 1900 and has been open to the public every day since it was completed.

Mirador Panorámico (Viewpoint)

A beautiful structure that offers a panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez. From here, you can appreciate stunning sunsets and the majesty of Cerro Tetakawi.

In addition to the beautiful ocean views, you can spot dolphins and whales passing by.

National Geographic has recognized this viewpoint as one of the top 10 ocean views in the world.

Palacio Municipal (City Hall)

Eclectic building constructed on the site where the old jail was in 1899.

It has a beautiful arcade on its lower part.

Plaza 13 de Julio

It is a historic place that represents the struggle that took place during the French invasion.

It features a Moorish-style kiosk designed by the builder of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

Three Presidents Plaza

It was built to honor three of Mexico's presidents.

These three individuals were born in Guaymas: Adolfo de la Huerta, Plutarco Elías Calles, and Abelardo Rodríguez.

Plaza del Pescador (Fisherman's Plaza)

It is the most representative symbol of the port.
