The estuary mouth is where the Sea of Cortez flows in. Contrary to the typical vegetation of the region, the area is surrounded by dense mangroves. It is home to three species of mangroves where species such as brown and blue shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels, and crabs thrive.
The estuary is where freshwater and saltwater meet, and it is the habitat for over 100 different bird species. It is an ideal place for boat rides or kayaking.
The water maintains a cool temperature despite having a maximum depth of one meter.
The estuary serves as a refuge, nesting site, feeding ground, and resting place for a wide variety of seabirds, which can be particularly observed in the evenings. Here, you can see herons, seagulls, and pelicans. In summer, over 40 species of birds can be spotted, while during winter, more than 100 bird species have been recorded as it is a place where many migratory birds settle.
One of the main attractions of the place is that it is populated by a certain type of plankton with luminous properties that are excited by movement, creating silver phosphorescent displays that rival the stars during the nights. It is an excellent place for fishing.
