It is a small village nestled in a beautiful canyon.

It is primarily known for hosting one of the country's most visited sanctuaries dedicated to the Holy Lord of Chalma. The place has managed to preserve a mystical atmosphere where ancient traditions have been kept alive.

The Sanctuary comprises the church that houses the Lord of Chalma, a 17th-century convent, the cave where the apparition occurred, and some lodgings for pilgrims.

The church has an impressive neoclassical facade, and its main altar is in Plateresque style.

Within the town, El Ahuehuete is also famous, a centuries-old tree whose roots produce crystal-clear water that popular tradition attributes miraculous and healing properties.
