Santa María del Oro Lagoon
It is an icon of the state of Nayarit due to its mysticism and legend. The legend tells the story of an ancient village called Michiztlán, where a king had a beautiful daughter. The girl fell in love with a young man from an enemy village. When the king discovered this, he became furious and ordered his soldiers to tie the young lovers to a post. Being so close yet so far, the enamored couple cried nonstop for days until they formed the lake.
The lake is situated within a volcanic crater formed by the impact of a meteorite, giving it a depth of 60 meters.
The freshwater lake contains a high concentration of minerals and has a fluctuating color range, shifting from blue to bright green. This lake is also known as the Enchanted Lagoon.
Templo del Señor de la Ascensión
The temple dates back to the 17th century and is located adjacent to the Casa de la Cultura (House of Culture).
