THERMAL WATERS AMIDST INCREDIBLE LANDSCAPES

This picturesque town bordering Jalisco is located on the foothills of the Ceboruco volcano, featuring lush valleys surrounded by forests, stepped canyons, marvelous waterfalls, rivers, and thermal waters.

Its name derives from Nahuatl and means "Place where amate and paper abound." The town is characterized by cobblestone streets lined with beautiful houses built with adobe and red tile roofs, inviting you to explore it step by step, enjoying its history and traditions. 

Amatlán not only offers its varied natural beauties but also allows visitors to explore its ex-haciendas and delve into the mining veins, where minerals are still extracted.

Another of its attractions is the rich local cuisine, and it offers a wide range of accommodation options, from boutique hotels in the municipal seat to resort-style cabins at El Manto spa.

Amatlán enjoys a warm climate almost all year round, with heavy rains in summer and cool weather in winter. Its average temperature is 23 degrees Celsius.

It is located in the southern part of the State of Nayarit, two hours from both Tepic and Guadalajara.

Tourist Attractions in Amatlán de Cañas

Lateran Basilica or Temple of Jesus of Nazareth 

Built in 1750, its unique facade features distinct details as it is made of quarry stone and bricks. Part of the temple was rebuilt between 1881 and 1886, while the tower was completed in 1908.

Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe

This church was chosen by local miners in 1864. It is a significant place for the locals, especially due to the canvas of the Virgin of Guadalupe located inside, which was donated by a miner in the early 20th century.

Enjoy "El Salto del Coronel" and “San Blasito” Water Parks

Located in the village of El Rosario, these spas feature pools in a beautiful natural setting. The crystal-clear waters of the pools come from a natural spring, free of chemicals.

They also offer children's playgrounds, cabins, and camping areas. San Blasito is a hot spring said by locals to have healing properties.

Visit El Manto Water Park

El Manto is a natural canyon adapted as a recreational center, featuring a waterfall with a drop of approximately 7 meters. It has a spectacular staircase with 144 steps and several dams creating crystal-clear ponds of various sizes and depths, all within the canyon, providing an impressive natural setting. It also includes showers, restrooms, grills, and a restaurant. Open from 8:00 to 18:00 hrs.

Explore Barranca del Oro 

Barranca del Oro is an abandoned mining town where you can see remnants of an 18th-century hacienda, including its walls, chapel, and a tower. 

Visit a Hacienda in El Rosario

After navigating narrow alleys in Barranca del Oro, you'll find the path to El Rosario, just 2 km away. At the entrance to this village, there are remnants of the Hacienda de Quesería, built in the 18th century, where cheese, peanuts, and coffee were produced.

In the community of El Rosario, a family has been producing peanuts for years using an artisanal process of peeling, separating, and selecting seeds, salting, and sun-drying them. They also make other peanut products such as sauces, marzipan, and candied peanuts.
