THE GATEWAY TO NAYARIT
Its name means "place where obsidian abounds," and it is a very important site from an archaeological perspective, as the Los Toriles archaeological zone, one of the most significant in the region, is located nearby.
It offers all the amenities of a city while retaining the traditions and customs of a small town.
Exploring Ixtlán del Río on foot is the best way to enjoy all its corners and ancient structures, such as the Temple of San Juan Apóstol and the Regional Anthropology Museum, located within the Municipal Presidency, considered a historic building.
The Los Toriles archaeological site is located 9 km away. This important indigenous settlement is one of the main examples of architecture and societies from the Postclassic period. It currently has 93 mounds, with the circular building standing out, emblematic of the area and traditionally known as "Ehécatl-Quetzalcóatl."
You can also visit the petroglyphs of El Terreno, Sayulapa, and El Veladero.

Museum of the House of Culture
Housed within the old colonial building of the Municipal Presidency located in the historic center.
With six exhibition rooms, the museum showcases an archaeological collection, paintings, and photographs depicting the history of Ixtlán.
Opening hours are from Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 19:00 hrs , and it is located at Av. Miguel Hidalgo 45 in the Historic Center.
Cerrito de Cristo Rey
It is one of the most visited tourist attractions by a large number of believers. During the last week of October, they make a pilgrimage to the top to celebrate the feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday of October.
In addition, from the viewpoint, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Ixtlán del Río. In 1947, Father Justo Barajas requested the construction of this monument from architect Guadalupe Vázquez, and it was completed in 1949.
It consists of a staircase with 544 steps and 15 resting spots, each with a cross.
