One of the most emblematic sites in the city.

It is the place where Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg and Generals Miguel Miramón and Tomás Mejía were executed.

In 1900, the Austrian government built a chapel on the site of the event. Inside, there is a wooden cross made from part of the ship that brought Maximilian to Mexico.

In 1967, during the presidency of Días Ordaz, a monumental statue of President Benito Juárez, 13 meters tall, was erected.

It gets its name from a legend that speaks of stones on the hill that, when struck, resemble the sound of bells because they are composed of an alloy of bronze, silver, copper, and antimony.

Today, Cerro de las Campanas is home to the Autonomous University of Querétaro and is considered a National Park, becoming a space for recreation and leisure.

There are guided tours that explain the entire history of this emblematic place.
