It is a picturesque town with a peaceful atmosphere.

It is a picturesque town with a peaceful atmosphere.

You can stroll through its cobblestone streets and enjoy the mountainous landscape.

Here, you'll find a 16th-century temple built by Dominican monks. Inside, you can admire beautiful paintings such as "The Last Supper" and splendid altarpieces. There's also a beautiful 18th-century organ. Nearby, there's a small dam and several waterfalls.

It is the birthplace of the ancient beverage of the gods, "Tejate," made from toasted corn flour, fermented cocoa beans, mamey seeds, and cocoa flower, also known as "rosita de cacao." These ingredients are mixed with water to create a paste, which is served cold in red clay jícaras (gourds) with a generous layer of foam on top.

The Tejate Fair is celebrated every year in April.
