It is unique in its kind in our country and was installed in June 1997 in the Old Cemetery of Santa Veracruz.

This beautiful 18th-century building served as a cemetery until the mid-19th century and is located behind the Calvary Chapel in the historic center of San Juan del Río.

The museum aims to present death as a cultural phenomenon with all its intensity, mystery, and symbolic meaning, as well as an essential and inevitable component of human life in any society.

The museum showcases the evolution of mentality, ritual practices, and religious beliefs about death in this region and in our country, addressing the subject in four major sections: Death in Mesoamerica, Death in New Spain, Secular Death, and Death in Contemporary Popular Culture.

The museum includes various iconographies depicting purgatory, hell, religious-themed photographs, and paintings.
