It is a beautiful town located in the High Mountains region.
It is a beautiful town located in the High Mountains region, amidst landscapes of lush green vegetation and deep canyons.
The town is situated at the foot of the Chichiquila Canyon, offering an incredible panoramic view of the country's highest volcano, Pico de Orizaba.
Due to its location, it is one of the coffee-producing towns in the Veracruz highlands, where you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee in some of the establishments near Ignacio Zaragoza Park, located in the city center.
The main square features a beautiful kiosk with a distinct French style, considered one of the most beautiful in all of Veracruz.
The town is highlighted by the Parish of San Antonio de Padua, which has two towers. The church has two levels, and the interior floor is covered with marble brought from Italy.
Other important buildings include the Church of Santa Cecilia, built on top of an ancient Aztec Teocalli, and inside it houses a Teponaxtli (prehispanic musical instrument) which, according to legend, was given by Saint Cecilia to an indigenous person to build a temple in her honor.
Two representative constructions in Huatusco are the Soleiro Theater, showcasing a classic Porfiriato style, and the Municipal Palace, both dating back to the late 19th century.
One of the most beautiful public promenades is the Agustín Chicuellar Alameda, built in the early 20th century, featuring playgrounds, sports courts, and extensive gardens.
Its gastronomy is diverse and prepared with fresh local products. Among its most representative dishes are Tlatonile, a type of mole, and cozamalo tamales, small and thin round tamales. If you enjoy exotic food, you can try chicatanas, which are ants roasted and ground in a mortar.
In the surrounding area, you can visit Cerro de Acatepec, the "Las Cañadas" Ecological Reserve, Laguna de Santo Domingo, and Tenexamaxa Waterfalls.
Just 30 minutes away is Cerro de Guadalupe, which has one of the largest statues of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the country, standing at 30 meters tall, making it the tallest statue in Mexico.
If you are interested in archaeology, do not miss the Chavaxtla Caves, which contain cave paintings dating back at least 3,000 years.
