A majestic convent complex.

It was built by the Dominicans in the 16th century, although it was never completed, its carved stone walls showcase its grandeur.

Within the complex, you can find the Capilla Abierta (Open Chapel), which was the first structure built, as well as the unfinished basilica church and the Ex Convent.

The convent was dedicated to Santiago Apóstol, and two circular towers, where the bell towers were located, stand out.

It is a place of historical importance since General Vicente Guerrero was executed here.

Although the town is known for this impressive convent, you can also explore the Cuilapan Tourist Walk, where you can visit the characteristic central square and what used to be the Marqués del Valle's House, which belonged to Hernán Cortés.

Like many other towns in the Central Valleys, you can find a great variety of handicrafts at its craft market.

It is located in the southern part of the Central Valleys, about 15 minutes from the city of Oaxaca.
