It is one of the oldest and largest parks in the historic center of the city.

It was created by General Morelos in commemoration of a civic-religious holiday, due to the triumphs of the Independence movement.

Its construction took place from 1870 to 1886. In the mid-20th century the park functioned as a zoo, and it was not until 1970 that the park was remodeled to its current state.

It is approximately 250 meters long by 75 meters wide. It is equipped with gardens, walkways, benches and four fountains of different sizes. It is also used for civic events and artistic and cultural festivals.

It is one of the largest and oldest recreation parks in Oaxaca. Fridays during Lent are known as the “Fridays of the Llano” because this place turns into a real center of a celebration with multiple bands, dancing monos and flowers all over the place.

You also find stalls selling traditional food and sweets.
