It was founded around its railroad station.
One of the outstanding features of Nuevo Casas Grandes is its proximity to the impressive archaeological site of Paquimé, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Paquimé was a pre-Columbian settlement that thrived from the 11th to the 14th century and is known for its well-preserved adobe structures and intricate ceramics.
In its surroundings, Mormon and Mennonite communities settled, boosting the region's economy.
In Colonia Dublán, almost adjacent to the city, there is an old neighborhood with charming Virginian-style houses lining the streets, housing excellent restaurants where you can enjoy delicious local cuisine.
Nature lovers can visit Laguna Fierro, an artificial lake created by the Mormon community for irrigation purposes. It now serves as a recreational area where you can enjoy outdoor activities and relax in a beautiful setting. Additionally, the town of Juan Mata Ortiz is located nearby. This town is internationally renowned for its exquisite ceramic creations. This artistic tradition, influenced by the culture of Paquimé, has gained fame worldwide. When visiting, you have the opportunity to witness the ceramic-making process, admire the craftsmanship, and even acquire unique pieces as souvenirs.
