It is a modern and unique museum.
It features several interactive screens where you can enjoy videos and photographs that speak about the history and beauty of the Sonoran Desert, specifically the volcanic shield and the Pinacate and Gran Desierto del Altar Biosphere Reserve.
The museum also has an audiovisual room where you can watch a 15-minute documentary to learn more about the flora and fauna of this UNESCO World Heritage site and the Tohono O'odham culture.
In the surroundings of the museum, there are three interpretive trails (biological, geological, and general) that you can explore to immerse yourself in the environment. If you stay quiet and attentive, you may see some of the mammals, birds, and reptiles that inhabit the area.
From here, you can also start your exploration of the Dunes of the Gran Desierto de Altar and enjoy their unique beauty, as it is the largest active sand dune desert in North America.
