It is the birthplace of the “Jarabe Mixteco,” a well-known tradition of Oaxaca.
The Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, a magnificent neoclassical temple, has undergone various expansions and renovations from the 16th to the 17th century, along with some small changes, making it the most spectacular building in Huajuapan.
You can also visit the 17th-century Chapel of the Diocesan Tabernacle.
At the Regional Museum of Huajuapan, you can learn more about the archaeology and ethnography of the region. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 hrs and from 16:00 to 20:00 hrs.
The Cerro de las Minas archaeological site, belonging to the Mixtec culture, has been dated to the year 400 AD. Although it is not one of the most well-known sites in the state, it is worth a visit.
One of the must-see places is the Glass Lookout located on Cerro del Yukunitza, which you can reach via beautiful trails and from where you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view.
There, you can also enjoy the River Mixteco Ecological Park, where you can experience the thrill of a zip line.
If you want to visit all the most emblematic places, you can take the Turileón, a charming tourist bus.
