In this town, the Church of La Candelaria stands out, dating back to the 15th century, which is one of the main colonial monuments on the coast, and the octagonal fountain or basin in the plaza.

This municipality is known for its production of chocolate, which is done in an artisanal and high-quality manner. Because of this, there is a pleasant green area known as the Chocolate Park.

In the vicinity, you'll find Finca Rosario Izapa, an agro-experimental station where research is conducted on cocoa and tropical fruits.

On February 2nd, the Fiesta de la Candelaria takes place, which is the biggest celebration in the town and lasts approximately two weeks.
