GLORIOUS MINING PAST REFLECTED IN ITS ARCHITECTURE

It is one of the most picturesque towns in the heart of the country.

The old mining town, founded in 1555 by Juan de Tolosa upon the discovery of a rich silver deposit, offers an attractive blend of history, culture, and gastronomy.

The town boasts a colonial appearance, surrounded by 10 hills, each crowned with a cross. You can enjoy its beautiful Historic Center with intricate streets paved with blue marble, lovely squares, gardens, and elegant buildings made of orange quarry stone that transport you back in time to its mining origins.

Its rich veins yielded gold, silver, lead, tin, and mercury, and this wealth is reflected in some of its buildings and temples that adorn Sombrerete.

You can explore this town on a bicycle, ATV, cart, or by walking. It is a World Heritage site as part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.

The main festival in Sombrerete takes place in February in the neighborhood of La Candelaria, where the temple of the same name is located.

The town has a cool and dry climate. During the summer months, temperatures fluctuate between 20 and 23°C as highs, and during the winter months, the lows can reach almost 0°C.

It is located 166 km (2 hours) northwest of the city of Zacatecas, 107 km (an hour and fifteen minutes) from Fresnillo, and 125 km (an hour and a half) from Durango.
