A PLACE WITH ANCESTRAL HISTORY

Villanueva is a charming place distinguished by its rich history, culture, architecture, and natural beauty.

Its foundation dates back to 1692 when it was known as Villagutierre del Águila. In 1721, it was renamed Villa de San Judas Tadeo de Villagutierre del Águila in honor of the town's patron saint. Recently, it has come to be known simply as Villanueva.

As you walk through its streets, you will enjoy the tile-roofed houses and the peaceful atmosphere, discovering small treasures that speak of its history.

The surroundings feature beautiful natural landscapes, ancient haciendas, and a surprising archaeological site.

The cultural diversity of Villanueva is reflected in its customs and traditions, as well as in its artistic expressions. An example is the typical tamborazo, a genre of regional music you can enjoy in the main square.

One of the most important festivities is the celebration of San Judas Tadeo, the patron saint of the town, which takes place every October 28 with music, dances, processions, and artisanal and gastronomic displays.

Its historical, archaeological, architectural, and cultural attractions make it a venue for astronomical experiences, ethnic-religious ceremonies, spiritual gatherings, and solstice festivals.

It is located less than an hour from the capital city of Zacatecas.
