ANCIENT MINING TOWN WITH A BEAUTIFUL LAGOON

Located in the southern state of Sinaloa, 64 km from Mazatlan, it is said that around 1655, the foreman Bonifacio Rojas lost a rosary and, while searching for it, discovered a large amount of gold and silver right where the town stands now. For almost 300 years, over 70 km of underground tunnels were dug, giving rise to the saying that there are more tunnels than streets on the surface.

This prosperous colonial town has become a destination full of history, tradition, and culture, with a marked viceregal atmosphere.

An interesting fact about the town is that the famous author Julio Verne visited it, a legend fueled by one of his short novels set in Mexico.

This town is the birthplace of the renowned singer Lola Beltrán.

The climate here is temperate, with temperatures ranging from 31ºC in the hottest months to 18ºC in the coldest months.

It is located just 70 km (one hour) from Mazatlan and 206 km (two and a half hours) from Tepic.
