The museum is located in the Old Chapman House, a building from the early 20th century, with an American-style mansion.
The Regional Museum contains diverse collections related with the history of the Valle del Fuerte region, including the indigenous past and the intermixing with various cultures that have settled in this area, such as Spanish, German, English, Chinese, Turkish, Lebanese, and Japanese, among others. Its six rooms present information on the pre-Hispanic, colonial, independence, reform, revolution, and contemporary periods.
It features a collection of Yoreme-Mayo culture pieces and information related to this indigenous group, the most prominent in the state.
The museum also offers temporary exhibitions, guided tours, historical information, a bookstore, and artistic workshops.
