Built between 1869 and 1880, it was named in honor of a great singer who died in Mazatlán.

The theater has an interesting history. In 1883, an Italian opera company attempted to perform an opera there, but the diva Ángela Peralta couldn't sing due to a mild case of yellow fever. She died a few days later in the house next door. The building fell into disuse, and the proud opera house became a cinema, a vaudeville stage, a boxing ring, and even a parking lot for "pulmonías" (local taxis).

The theater was splendidly restored and reopened on October 23, 1992. Since then, this beautiful and centennial place has been the venue for important cultural and artistic events and has been declared a historic monument.

It includes a gallery and a museum detailing the restoration.
