A village settled in an oasis and inhabited by the Cochimí people.

It was discovered by Jesuit Father Francisco María Piccolo and founded in 1728.

This village is home to the Mission of San Ignacio de Loyola, located in front of the main square. The construction dates back to the 18th century and is one of the best-preserved missions on the Baja California Peninsula, as it was built with volcanic stone blocks. Inside, there is a wooden altar with gold leaf, as well as oil paintings and a statue of San Ignacio de Loyola.

Next to the mission is the Rock Art Museum, which displays the archaeological remains found in the region.
