CITY SURROUNDED BY VOLCANOES
The name Colima comes from "Colliman," a Nahuatl word that means "Place conquered by our ancestors" or "Place where the old God or God of fire dominates," as it is located in a valley between two volcanoes: the Volcán de Colima, still active, and the Nevado de Colima, inactive and covered in snow.
Specifically, the City of Colima is nationally known as the "City of Palms" and is the most important center of economic, political, and cultural life in the state.
While strolling through Colima, one can notice its tranquil atmosphere and the warmth of its inhabitants. The main square is the heart of the city, where traditional arcades, the impressive Government Palace, and the beautiful cathedral can be seen.
One of the major attractions of Colima is its temperate climate. The average annual temperature hovers around 25°C, with a maximum of 36°C and a minimum of 7°C.
The city celebrates its fair in November, but it also hosts an attractive commercial fair from May 1st to 10th, featuring livestock, agricultural, and industrial events.
