Information
It is a neighboring town to the city of Colima.
Villa de Álvarez is a place of tradition that has preserved its picturesque character, reflected in its main square, a beautiful tree-lined garden with a kiosk in the center. The east and west streets surrounding the garden have been converted into promenades where you can find traditional porticos inviting you to stroll while savoring delicious popsicles made with local products.
Facing the square is the Parish of San Francisco de Asís, an elegant neoclassical construction dating back to 1903.
To the south of this city, you will find the Juan de Arrué Art Garden, where artisans specialize in crafting Mexican-style furniture using parota, pine, cedar, and primavera wood. There is also a blacksmith and stone carving workshop, as well as a shop dedicated to reproducing pre-Hispanic pieces.
You can also visit the Ex Hacienda del Carmen, which was built in the 18th century and has been remodeled in recent years. It features a beautiful courtyard with fountains, and the chapel has a neoclassical facade. The hacienda exhibits unique relics such as clothing and antique carriages. It also has an events hall.
Villa de Álvarez is famous in the state and the region for its traditional "charrotaurinas" festivals, considered among the oldest and liveliest in northwest Mexico, as well as for its flavors and colors.
Here you can find a wide variety of gastronomic options in its restaurants, ranging from international cuisine to typical snacks such as "sopitos," tostadas, pozole, and sweet enchiladas.
