PLACE SURROUNDED BY FRUIT TREES
Its name comes from Nahuatl and means "the place of our grandparents". It is located just 40 minutes away from the city of Colima and is a pleasant town surrounded by mango, lemon, and banana plantations.
This territory has been inhabited since pre-Hispanic times, and the city was founded in 1523 by Gonzalo de Sandoval as the original Villa de Colima, which would become the first municipality in western New Spain.
It is characterized by its large number of green areas and groves, among which the Hidalgo Garden stands out.
It has several celebrations throughout the year, including the Pilgrimage to Boca de Pascuales, which takes place on the Saturday immediately after February 2nd. It involves a procession from the Diocesan Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Candelaria to Boca de Pascuales, where the image of the Virgin of Candelaria leads the pilgrimage, and the entire town gives thanks for having survived the tsunami that occurred in 1932.
Another important festival is the National Lemon Fair, which takes place in late January and early February. It features artisan and commercial exhibitions, as well as musical and gastronomic events.
Just 20 minutes from downtown Tecomán is the beach of Boca de Pascuales, characterized by its gray sand and the mouth of the Almería River. This is a place for swimming with caution but is ideal for surfing due to its deep waters.
