The history of the Villahermosa Cathedral dates back to the year 1776.

It was in that year when the church of the Lord of Esquipulas was erected in what is now Parque Morelos. In 1884, the cathedral was built, but during Governor Tomás Garrido Canabal's anti-religious campaign, the building was converted into a school.

Later, between 1928 and 1934, it was completely destroyed.

The current building was constructed from 1960 to 1963 and has become one of the most prominent structures in the city, especially at night when it is illuminated and stands out in the urban landscape.

It features a monumental facade with towering spires that give it an air of majesty. In contrast, its interior is small and austere.
