This building was known as the Old Royal House.
It was built as the residence for governors and captains general of the province of Yucatán, on the same site where the old "Royal Houses" stood during colonial times. The Royal Houses hosted Yucatecan governors as well as several of their main collaborators.
This building corresponds to the Porfirian era and has a neoclassical style. In 1883, the original building was demolished, and construction began on another building that respected the original design, which was completed in 1892.
Its facade displays a replica of the bell from the church in the town of Dolores.
It consists of two floors decorated with arcades, an interior courtyard, and arches.
This beautiful building features 27 mural paintings created by the distinguished Yucatecan painter Fernando Castro Pacheco, which depict scenes from the state's history. These works are distributed across both floors of the building, including the Hall of History, the upper and lower corridors of the Palace, and the staircase.
On the upper floor is the Hall of Portraits, which includes portraits of Vicente María Velázquez, Andrés Quintana Roo, Benito Juárez, Juan Crisóstomo Cano y Cano, Manuel Cepeda Peraza, Eligio Ancona, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Salvador Alvarado.
Today, it houses the offices of the state government.
