It is housed in a building constructed in 1852.

This building initially functioned as the Escuela Nacional de Minas (National School of Mines), later becoming a military barracks, a shelter for children, and a House of Culture.

The museum has 9 rooms dedicated to local figures such as Manuel M. Ponce, Francisco Goitia, Tomás Méndez, Daniel Peralta, and Mateo Gallegos.

It offers guided tours, lectures, courses and workshops, a library, newspaper library, video library, and parking facilities.

This building also houses the offices of the Autonomous University of Fresnillo.
