In colonial times, this neighborhood was inhabited by artisans and laborers.

It began to experience rapid growth in the 18th century with the construction of a street that led from the Episcopal Palace (now the MACAY building) northward. This road was adorned with eight stone arches and was called Calle Progreso because it led to the port of Yucatán.

The church of Santa Ana was built in 1729 and has a stone plaque at the entrance indicating that the remains of the builder, General Antonio de Figueroa y Silva, are interred there. It is surrounded by lush trees that provide a tranquil atmosphere to enjoy the neighborhood.

Currently, the Santa Ana Park is a place where craft and gastronomic exhibits take place, featuring delicious regional food.
