This neighborhood has a lot of history.

It is located on the site where the first indigenous settlement was encountered by the Spanish when they arrived at T'ho, the Mayan city on which Mérida was built.

Inside the church, there is a stone plaque marking the spot where the first Mass in the city was celebrated.

During the colonial era, this was an indigenous neighborhood, even governed by chiefs. It was the route through which the Royal Road led to Sisal, the most important port of that era.

Santiago Park is known for its lively and bustling atmosphere. Nowadays, you can enjoy movie theaters, the traditional Santos Degollado Market, the Museum of Natural History, and the Centenario Zoo, built-in 1910.

Here, residents and visitors gather to reminisce about melodies of yesteryear with rhythms such as danzón, cha-cha-cha, mambo, and rumba, among others, turning the square into a dance floor.
