This neighborhood has a lot of history.
Its name means “Place of the Tapir” in Mayan.
It is known as the City of Kings, because it has a traditional festival in honor of the Three Wise Men that is celebrated for more than a week.
It is important to mention that the gastronomy of the region is another attraction, you must try a delicious pozole with coconut.
Located two hours from Mérida.
Location
It is located 52 km, approximately 50 minutes from Valladolid.
Plaza Principal (Main Plaza)
Like almost all towns in the state, it has a quiet main square. In front is the Cathedral of the Three Wise Men, an eclectic church. The construction dates back to the colonial period and the Wise Men statues has a beautiful legend that you should find out when you visit this picturesque place.
Catacumbas (Catacombs)
Continuing with the theme of the Three Wise Men, you can also visit The Catacombs, which are known regionally as “sascaberas” which are chambers and tunnels that were formed by extracting “sascab”, a material that was used for construction.
Within this peculiar landscape you can see paintings, reliefs and images of the Three Wise Men.
Ex Convento Franciscano (Former Franciscan Convent)
A place with a lot of history a massive construction that is more than 400 years old located in Kikil.
Mercado Municipal (Market)
It is a place full of color and flavor.
Cenote Kikil
Just 5 km away is the beautiful Cenote Kikil, an ideal place to enjoy nature. On its walls you can see the Tho birds fluttering around, because the birds have found a refuge to make their nests. The cenote is 13 m in diameter and 6 m deep with amazing emerald green waters.
Kulubá Ruins
Another attraction to visit are the Ruins of Kulubá, located 37 km from Tizimín.
The Mayan vestiges emerge from the lush vegetation and were built between 300 BC. to 1000 AD. The Palacio de los Chenes and the Temple of the Mascarones are the must important structures.
Museo de la Ciudad (City Museum)
This museum features an exhibition of local artifacts from the pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern eras. Among the objects on display are utensils, musical equipment, pottery, shells, stone pieces, and many more items.
