The construction of the building began in 1832 and was completed in 1834.

This theater burned down and had to be rebuilt in 1897. Later, in 1914, during the "Toma de Zacatecas" (Capture of Zacatecas), it was seriously damaged and in subsequent years served as a cinema, circus, sports arena, radio station, and rehearsal hall.

It was not until 1985 that the building was remodeled and refurbished, becoming one of the most outstanding in the city.

Its façade imitates architectural styles of the Italian and French schools in a Neo-Renaissance style, while the interior is in the Art Nouveau style, and both the lobby and the rest of the building have elegant decorations.

It was one of the preferred venues of the great singer Ángela Peralta, and currently, it is where important cultural and academic events take place.

It is located in front of Plaza Goitia and is one of the emblematic buildings of the city.
