IT WAS PART OF THE CAMINO REAL DE TIERRA ADENTRO

Pavilion of Hidalgo is recognized for its natural beauty and cultural richness. It was part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, a historic route of nearly 3,000 meters, also known as the Silver Route or the Road to Santa Fe, which was mapped out during the colonial era as a trade route and to support evangelization. This historical significance is why it has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the village, you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere as you stroll through its cobblestone streets lined with adobe houses, discovering the history of the place, including its prominent role during the Mexican War of Independence.

Today, the San Blas Dam has played a very important role in the development of the area and is also another of its natural attractions.

Pabellón de Hidalgo is known for its traditional celebrations and colorful festivals. One of the most important festivities is the San Juan Bautista Fair, held in June, which includes exciting events such as folk dances, amusement rides, and craft and culinary displays.

It is located in Rincón de Romos, just half an hour from the city of Aguascalientes.

Ex Hacienda de San Blas

Dating back to the 16th century, it was one of the most important haciendas in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is an important historical site since after the defeat of the insurgent army at the Battle of Puente de Calderón, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla traveled north and this was a point on his route.

It has been part of the World Heritage since 2010 as part of the cultural itinerary of the "Camino Real de Tierra Adentro".

You can visit a beautiful single-nave chapel and the main house, which houses the Museum of the Insurgency. Additionally, there is a botanical garden that gathers different species from the region.

Parroquia de San Blas

This 18th-century temple is one of the most cherished by the inhabitants of this Magical Town. It is surrounded by a beautiful plaza and is distinguished by its baroque tower. Inside, there is a magnificent 18th-century baroque altarpiece with a painting of the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe by the New Spanish painter José de Alcíbar. Another of its treasures is a painting located in the confessional, attributed to José de Páez.

Museo de la Insurgencia (Museum of the Insurgency)

It has two permanent rooms exhibiting farming, mining, and textile instruments used in the hacienda, as well as everyday objects. You can also admire murals by artist Alfredo Zermeño Flores that reflect the history of the last two centuries of the country.

Cerro de Santa Cruz

One of the attractions that have become iconic points of the town is the Santa Cruz, a metal structure measuring over 30 meters located at the top of a hill. From this point, you will have a wonderful panoramic view of the town, and the climb is not very difficult. On the second Sunday of September, a procession is held where the faithful are accompanied by a musical band and illuminate the path with lanterns.

En el segundo domingo de septiembre se realiza una procesión en donde los fieles van acompañados de una banda musical e iluminan el camino con veladores.

San Blas Dam

The dam is the gateway to the canyon system that rises to the Sierra Fría. It spans more than 50 kilometers with vertical walls up to 70 meters high. The dam curtain was built to supply water to the San Blas Hacienda in the 16th century. It is an ideal place for hiking, cycling, bird watching, horseback riding, sport fishing, camping, or simply enjoying nature.
