Inside the dam, there is an island that houses the Cristo Roto, an important monument over 28 meters tall, with the sculpture measuring 25 meters and a 3-meter base. It was built in honor of the old Pueblo Viejo, which was flooded when the dam was constructed. To reach the island, you have to climb some stairs to reach the sanctuary.
This impressive sculpture is missing its right arm and leg, as it is inspired by the tragedy that struck the town during the dam's construction when everyone had to evacuate as the water rose.
