Frontera is the municipal seat of Centla and one of the two most important ports in the area. However, what characterizes Frontera are its natural landscapes.

The municipality is part of the "Ruta de los Pantanos" (Swamp Route) and is part of the Centla Biosphere Reserve. Additionally, it is here where the Grijalva River merges its fresh waters with the salty sea, creating a unique natural environment.

Frontera is a place full of traditions and history that you can discover by walking through its streets and exploring its buildings.

The climate is warm and humid with abundant rain in the summer. The average maximum temperature is 30.8 °C and the minimum is 20.5 °C. 

It is located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico, 78 kilometers from Villahermosa.

Tourist Attractions in Frontera

Parroquia de Santa María de Guadalupe

This impressive 20-meter-high building is characterized by its two towers ending in a cross shape, housing the bells. It was built after the old church was demolished around 1930.

Ex Aduana Marítima (Former Maritime Customs House)

Inaugurated by Benito Juárez in 1871, it is one of the oldest customs houses in Mexico. It was built since the arrival of the Spaniards and had its peak during the 19th century. It was recently restored.
