TOP SIGHTS IN VILLAHERMOSA

Catedral del Señor de Tabasco

The history of the Villahermosa Cathedral dates back to the year 1776.

It was in that year when the church of the Lord of Esquipulas was erected in what is now Parque Morelos. In 1884, the cathedral was built, but during Governor Tomás Garrido Canabal's anti-religious campaign, the building was converted into a school.

Mirador de las Águilas (Eagles' Lookout)

It is a tall square tower over 50 meters in height.

Inside, there is a large helical staircase that leads to the top, where you can enjoy the best panoramic view of Villahermosa, including Laguna de las Ilusiones (Lagoon of Illusions).

Located in Parque Tomás Garrido Canabal on Boulevard Adolfo Ruíz Cortines, corner of Av. Paseo Tabasco, Villahermosa, Tabasco.

Mirador Puente Solidaridad (Solidarity Bridge Lookout)

It is a tower that offers a great panoramic view of the Grijalva River.

There is a huge concrete bridge that spans the mighty Grijalva River and ends on the other side in a plaza dedicated to the national flag. As part of this bridge, there is a tall tower of approximately thirty meters from which you can enjoy an excellent view of the city.

Located in Plaza de Armas.

Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace)

 It is located in Plaza de Armas and is a neoclassical building that was inaugurated in 1894.

It was designed by architects Carlos Jerez and Pedro Folc. The interior still preserves original decorations such as the staircase, mahogany doors, and French furniture.

Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00 hrs.

Planetarium

It is considered one of the most important planetariums in the country.

It features a monumental mural over 123 meters long by the Tabascan painter Daniel Ponce Montuy, depicting the mythological world of the Mayans.

Plaza de Armas (Main Plaza)

Its location is the same as designated by the Mayor, Diego de Quijada, in the original city plan since 1564. Since then, it has been considered the main square of the city and continues to be so to this day.

Currently, it is a spacious square with gardens, a promenade with arches, benches, and lampposts. From the square, you have a spectacular view of the Grijalva River while listening to the singing of birds sheltered in the lush trees.

Teatro Esperanza Iris

A majestic theater with modern architecture. It hosts theater performances, concerts, music, singing, classical ballet, folkloric events, and other cultural events.

It is named in honor of the most distinguished Tabascan diva of theater and operetta, Esperanza Iris. It is the most important cultural venue in Tabasco.

Templo de La Concepción

Its foundation dates back to around 1799.

In that year, a military man named Tillería brought an image of the Immaculate Conception from Spain, which was initially housed in a chapel made of straw and hedges. In 1826, it was replaced with a brick and tile structure, which served as a fortification for Mexican troops during the American and French invasions.

Zona Luz (Light Zone)

It is the oldest part of Villahermosa.

It still preserves remnants of late 19th and early 20th-century architecture.

It is a cobblestone area closed to vehicular traffic, where visitors can find various types of commercial establishments, restaurants, and hotels.
