It was built on the site of the former Casa de Moneda (Mint).

Federico Meade acquired the Casa de Moneda building in 1901 and demolished it to construct the Palacio Monumental.

It is a beautiful neoclassical building made of quarry stone, featuring magnificent balconies. At the front, there is a double-headed eagle and the coat of arms of the Meade family.

Francisco I. Madero stayed in this building when he was imprisoned.
