It was built in 1596 as a presidio to protect this region of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.

After years of disuse, in 1695, it was established as an agricultural and livestock hacienda, occupying vast expanses of land and becoming one of the most important producers of cattle in the region.

The immense storage areas where grain and harvests were kept can still be seen today, and in what used to be the hacienda's orchard, there is a small thermal water resort.

The Casa Grande occupies the largest area of the main building, and some spaces can be visited, including the small chapel.

Location

Located in the municipality of Villanueva, approximately 77 km, about an hour from the city of Zacatecas.
