It is located at what was the entrance to the city in the 16th century.

The entrance was adorned with a cross, which was later replaced by a fountain in the 18th century. Later, in the late 19th century, the fountain was replaced by an equestrian statue of General Jesús González Ortega, which was subsequently moved to General Enrique Estrada Park in the mid-20th century.

When the spot became vacant, Federico Sescosse proposed the idea of this beautiful fountain in 1958, taking inspiration from the fountain located in the Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes next to the Cathedral of Seville, Spain.

Currently, it has become a symbol of the city.
