TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLACES, ONE DESTINATION
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo comprises two strikingly different areas within 4 miles of each other, which are connected by a four-lane freeway.
Ixtapa, a carefully planned resort, was developed in 1972, and offers world-class luxury hotels and spas, clustered around Palmar Beach. The resort also has colonial-style shopping malls and excellent boutiques, jewelry stores and handicraft shops, a modern marina and two beautiful golf courses.
More than 150 restaurants offer plenty of delicious choices, but Zihuatanejo is the best place to try regional fish specialties like the "pescadillas" and "pescado a la talla.” The fish and shrimp tacos are simply out of this world, as well as the ceviche and the famous Zihuatanejo “tiritas.”
The semi-tropical climate ensures average temperatures of around 82º F and sunshine 300 days a year. Take any of the regular international or domestic flights, or any of the luxury bus trips. If you prefer to drive, take Road 200, a great highway, along the coast. The trip from Acapulco will take approximately three and a half hours, and the famous port is just 156 miles south. Many pleasure cruises stop over at Zihuatanejo, a very popular port of call.
