Dzilam de Bravo is a typical village known for its white sand beaches.

The place also offers many other natural attractions, such as beautiful freshwater springs like Xbuya Ha, which expels fresh water to the surface of the sea; the Elepetén cenote, ideal for refreshing and swimming; the "Laguna Feliz"; and "Las Bocas," where the river and the sea meet, an extraordinary place for fishing and kayaking.

The village has a rich history since it was here that the Spaniards led by Francisco de Montejo (father) landed to begin the conquest of the Peninsula. For several centuries, it was the largest port in Yucatán, exporting salted meats, tallow, leather, and dye wood.

This colonial heritage is reflected in its churches: San Antonio de Padua, dating from the 16th century, as well as the Purísima Concepción and San Pedro, built in the 17th century.

In Dzilam de Bravo, you can find the tomb of the famous 19th-century pirate, Jean Laffitem. And very close to the port is the Yalkubul lighthouse, one of the most prominent parts of the coastline.

Location

It is located approximately 83 km, about an hour and a half east of Progreso.
