It is located in the heart of the city.
It is located in front of Macroplaza and next to the Cathedral, right in the heart of the city, creating a contrast with the modernity that prevails in Monterrey.
This area is composed of houses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries that have been renovated for a variety of uses. Along these picturesque streets, you will find bazaars, boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, bohemian-style bars, and sophisticated gourmet restaurants. At night, the streets are lit up by lanterns that evoke bygone eras.
As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, you will notice that some of the mansions have plaques on their facades indicating who lived there, and of course, many of them have their own legends.
Perhaps one of the most well-known is the story that claims you can hear the sound of horses' hooves from a carriage in the early morning hours, although if you ask the locals, they will tell you many more.
Among the mansions you should visit, there is Casa de las Águilas, currently the Women's Institute, which was a headquarters for American troops during the US invasion of 1845.
Another must-visit house is Casa de los Títeres, where you can see an important collection of puppets and a small theater where performances take place.
Inside the neighborhood, you will find the State Museum of Popular Cultures, which displays an important collection of textiles and ceramics from all over the country.
It is a lively place with a vibrant nightlife, offering breweries, clubs with different types of music, bars, and restaurants.
On Sundays, a kind of open-air market takes place on Mina Street, where various sculptors, painters, photographers, antique dealers, and artisans exhibit their works, often accompanied by local musicians, creating a unique atmosphere. It is a truly enjoyable experience.
