Montebello Lagoons
Walking among the lagoons learning more about their characteristics and appreciating their different shades is an experience that no one should miss.
Cascadas de Nuevo San Juan Chamula
This place is Chiapas’ hidden secret. The waterfalls are located between two large hills that form impressive falls from the turquoise waters of the Santo Domingo River. So walking to admire this natural wonder is really worth it.
You can start from the Mirador El Encuentro from where you can see the union of two rivers and from there you make a descent of approximately 500-meter (1,640 feet) on a path surrounded with lush vegetation until you reach the waterfalls. The journey takes more than an hour.
You should hire a local guide for this adventure.

Hiking in Chiapas
Parque El Encuentro
It is located just 15 minutes from San Cristóbal de las Casas and there are several interpretive trails in the park.
Centro Ecoturístico Cascadas El Chiflón (Ecotourism Center)
It is another beautiful landscape in Chiapas offers good hiking and camping spots.
It has a restaurant, rustic cabins, palapas, toilets, parking, iguana observation, a museum, viewpoints and a handicrafts shop.
It is located 56.3 km, approximately one hour from Comitán de Domínguez.
PALENQUE
Lacandona Junge Route
This is a magical route because the amaizing landscape includes mountains, rivers, waterfalls, caves, archaeological remains and Mayan communities.
In this adventure you visit Nahá and Metzabok, and part of the tour is on the lagoon in a canoe, continuing with a walk through the jungle until you reach a breathtaking viewpoint.
Another trail leads to Bonampak and the local guides always share their knowledge about the flora and fauna of the region.
Yaxchilán Archaeological Zone
For archeology lovers, you can visit Yaxchilan walking trails through the tropical jungle and crossing the Usumacinta River to reach Bonampak.
If you are in good physical condition, you can continue walking through the amazing vegetation of the Lacandona Jungle and arrive at Lacanja, to visit the beautiful waterfalls with crystalline waters where you can swim and cool off.
SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS
Rancho Evergreen
The ranch offers different hiking trails with different lengths and each one of them with incredible scenic views.
It is located approximately one hour from the Magic Town of San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Centro Ecoturístico El Arcotete (Ecotourism Center)
It has an area of 22 hectares and camping zones. Beside the center offers equipment rental, security, palapas with grills and games. A short walk will lead you to different caves and if you follow the trail you will be rewarded with spectacular views from the top of the arch. Other option is to walk along the river bank.
Another trail is to walk from the Arcotete to Cueva del Mamut (Mammoth Cave). You will walk in a forest landscape and visit the Quinta del Obispo built in 1700 and of course the amazing grotto.
It is located just 24 minutes from San Cristóbal de las Casas.
EcoMundo Recreational Park
It is located very close to Palenque and this two-kilometer trail leads visitors to wildlife observation areas, and native plant communities, as well as amazing viewpoints.
Consider booking a tour guide with great knowledge of the area including local flora & fauna, and to assure you'll never get lost on the trail.
Huitepec Ecological Reserve
It has an area of 138 hectares and is located 11 kilometers northwest of San Cristóbal de las Casas.
This mountain cloud forest, is the ideal setting for hiking or camping and learning about the flora and fauna of this region of Chiapas. These ecosystems contain dense canopies, bathed in moisture from the clouds that form in the moss-covered trees.
It has an interactive trail called "Oxyoquet", another name for Huitepec Volcano. The 2.5 km path leads you with informative signs, interactive signs and four observation areas so you can fully enjoy your journey.
San Juan Chamula – Zinacatlán
One way to enjoy nature and the culture and traditions of Chiapas is to visit the indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and later take the trails that lead to Zinacatlan.
You can learn a little more about their cuisine and crafts, as well as live with the residents and learn more about all their customs.
TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ
Laguna Verde
The area is ideal for horseback riding, swimming, boat rides, tours on water bikes and hiking, among many other fun things to do.
Parque Educativo Laguna Bélgica (Educational Park)
It has almost 42 hectares covered by a lush green, semi-tropical forest landscape, including timber species, shrubs and wild fruit trees.
There are trails all around a swampy area, mid-mountain jungles, and camping areas.
It is located just 18 kilometers from the center of the municipal seat of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, just over an hour from the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
