Samalayuca Dunes

This expansive dune field is the largest in North America, the dunes occupy an area of 2,000 sq km, a third of which was declared a protected area.

Samalayuca is perfect for practicing one of the most exhilarating sports ever, sandboarding. It is one of the top things to do in Ciudad Juarez, since it is only an hour’s drive away from Juarez.

You can slide down the sand dunes on top of a board, like in a big wave of more than 20-meter (66 feet) high and 48 degrees incline, just like surfers do in Hawaii.

Another modality is to be dragged by an ATV inside the large faces of the dunes, similar to water skiing.
