Many of the towns within the coastal zone are fishing villages, because the fish abundance in the area.

If sports fishing is your thing, then Barra de Navidad is the place to be! Here you can find species such as saw, red snapper, snapper, curel, bonito, lobster, octopus, clam and oyster, among many others.

The town hosts many annual events, including several fishing tournaments, among them the Fishing International Championship and the Marlin International Tournament.

Chamela Bay is one of the favorite places for sport fishing where you can easily catch red snapper, mullet, snapper, sierra and horse mackerel.

You can also fish in fresh water in the Cajón de Peñas Dam where there are tilapia, bass, carp and shrimp.
