Iturbide is nestled in the mountains.
Iturbide was established in what used to be the Hacienda de los San Pedro in the early 19th century.
Currently, it boasts beautiful streets lined with colorful buildings, squares, and gardens.
The highlight is the Temple of San Pedro Apóstol, built by the Franciscans in the 19th century, and the bas-relief created by Federico Cantú on a slab of Carretera Sierra, a monumental piece known as "Los Altares" (The Altars).
The town is surrounded by pine forests and features the "Stairway to Heaven," named for the lookout point where you can admire the nearby elevations.
You can also hike the Caracol Trail, a rural path that offers beautiful landscapes, and visit the Caracol Waterfall, an impressive waterfall accessed by walking through the Sierra de Iturbide.
