This region was inhabited by Chichimec tribes until the 19th century.

However, since the 18th century, many of the region's lands were used for cattle breeding.

It has a pleasant main square flanked by the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which was completed in 1857. Inside, there are three religious images and an oil painting dating back to the 17th century.

The former municipal presidency, a 19th-century building, houses the Higueras History Museum with three rooms displaying various pieces that tell the municipality's history.

In Higueras, you must try the delicious "bolitas de leche" (milk balls), which are the specialty of this municipality. However, you can also delight yourself with roasted kid goat seasoned with fine herbs, specifically with oregano.

You can enjoy a picnic day at the Higueras Lagoon or explore the surrounding mountain landscapes.
