ACULCO

Ñadó Mountain

It has an altitude of 3,000-meter (9,850 feet) and has trails that connecting different towns located on its slopes such as San Jerónimo, Los Aires, San Joaquín and San Antonio. The journey to the top is not very difficult although there are areas considered steep and may be a bit challenging, it takes approximately 4 hours and you are rewarded with a spectacular view of Aculco.

Zoquiapan National Park

The park offers mid-mountain hikes, which allows you to enjoy the great peaks of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, many of these routes start from Paso de Cortés.

EL ORO

On the outskirts of El Oro you can marvel at trails that lead to Mount Descubridora connected with old mines, ruins of facilities and viewpoints that offer spectacular panoramic views of the Magical Town.

Another option is to explore Cerro Somera, which divides two states and two towns, El Oro and Tlalpujahua. On this route you can also appreciate mining vestiges and fabulous panoramic views.

If you want to be in contact with nature, you can walk along the path that was used in the past to get to the Brockman Dam from downtown, enjoying all the landscapes of the region.

Its beautiful wooded landscapes can not only be explored during the day, but you can have a unique experience with night tours visiting mine ruins where your guide will tell you about the history and legends. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful starry skies.

We recommend you to wear hiking boots and warm clothing, especially in winter.

Hiking in Estado de México

MALINALCO

You can take walks around the Magic Town of Malinalco until you reach a natural viewpoint where you can appreciate the cave paintings of the area.

A path leads into the forest to the dam where you will find hundreds of birds.This experience is offered by the Isla de las Aves Recreational Park.

METEPEC

Hermenegildo Galeana Park

The park is an ideal place for nature lovers. It offers various trails and you can walk around 50 minutes to reach a nice waterfall called Salta de Santa, which has a drop of 30-meter (98 feet). It is located 45 minutes from Metepec.

TOLUCA

Nevado de Toluca

You can also ascend the Nevado de Toluca, the fourth highest mountain in the country. It has several trails some will involve a moderate incline and the level of difficulty goes from intermediate to difficult. You have to be very careful, especially in the rocky area before reaching the top to get to the Lagoon of the Sun and the Lagoon of the Moon.

 

VALLE DE BRAVO

In Valle de Bravo, there are three main trails on the town side: one comes out of the sports complex; another from the zone of the Mission Cross; and there third one starts near the deviation to Avandaro. On the other side of Monte Alto there are several trails starting at different heights from the Acatitlán road.

There is a tour leaving from Valle de Bravo and includes a visit to the El Molino waterfalls, El Salto waterfall and the Velo de Novia waterfall with a drop of 35-meter (114 feet). The experience of course includes a walk through the spectacular pine and oyamel forests that surround the waterfalls.

Another option in the Avandaro region is to walk through the pines and oyameles with trees that reach a height of 50-meter (164 feet), walking along the lake and exploring the nearby hill until you reach a place called "La Torre" with an incredible panoramic view.

Another excellent option is to hike the slopes of Iztaccíhuatl where you can have an excellent view of Popocatépetl and the entire Valley of Mexico.

VILLA DE CARBÓN

In the surroundings of Villa del Carbón there are three dams that offer excellent paths with beautiful forests to be traveled: The Molinitos Dam, the Llano Dam and the Taxhimay Dam.
