Its main tributaries are the Extóraz and San Juan rivers, and it is located in a canyon that becomes narrower as you progress, with impressive walls reaching heights of up to 900 m.
It is a spectacle to see the different shades of green in the river surrounded by lush vegetation and rocky sculptures that resemble true works of art created by nature.
Here, you can fish different species such as yellow fish, catfish, tilapia, acamaya, scaly fish, and trout. Camping is also possible along the riverbank, but it is necessary to heed the warning of the "trueno ronco" (deep thunder) sound that locals identify when a storm is approaching, as it can be risky to stay in the area. It is best to visit this place during a non-rainy season.
Another important consideration when camping near the riverbanks is that the water level can rise considerably within minutes, as the flow increases in the Zimapán Hydroelectric Power Plant during the evening.
Exploring the river is for adventurous souls, as it is not a tourist route and there are no facilities available.
