Puerto Escondido offers one of the best conditions for sport fishing along the Pacific coast.
The most common species found in these waters are red snapper and snapper, although in deeper waters it is easy to catch sailfish, dorado, marlin, skipjack, grouper, and roosterfish year-round. The cold waters of winter increase the possibility of fishing trophy pieces, at this time the yellowfin tuna is very abundant.
In Puerto Escondido there is a cooperative with experienced fishermen that knows very well the best places to fish and has the necessary equipment to practice this sport.
You can rent a boat at Playa Principal and Playa Angelito. The tours start very early and along the way you will be able to see dozens of dolphins jump and play alongside the boat, as well as many turtles. From December to March it is not uncommon to also see Humpback whales, orcas and Grey whales.
The Chacahua Lagoon and the Manialtepec Lagoon are good options for freshwater fishing. In Maniltepec you will catch mojarra, sea bass or catfish.
